What is The Benefit of Vernix Caseosa here we know and also known what is vernix caseosa and let’s see how to look like so please keep in touch…!
What is Vernix Caseosa.
Vernix Casiosa also known as Vernix covers and protect the new born baby body. It has protective role after few hour of birth and fetal development & also known as Vernix which is waxy or white substance like cheese .
Composite of Vernix Caseosa is mainly water which is approximately 80.5%, lipid which is 10.3% – it include Ceramide , Cholesterol & GLA (Gamma Linolenic Acid which is a fatty acid ) this lipids are in the ratio of 3:1:1. The third one is protein which is 9.1%. So, Vernix Caseosa act as mechanical and chemical barrier which protect the baby from infection pathogens.
Types Of Vernix
A number of antimicrobial peptides and proteins has been found is Vernix are :-
These are mammalian antimicrobial peptides found from organism ranging from plant to mammals. This both includes some defense protein which are lycozyme, lactoferrine, psoriasin and SLPI (Secretory Leukocyte Protease Inhibitors).
Vernix is rich in lipids derives from the sebaceous gland (The gland where the lipids are produced). To kill the enveloped viruses and various bacteria in vitro there are number of free fatty acid and 1-monoacylglycerols.
The active lipids affects cellular plasma membranes like antimicrobial peptides. These are defense widespread effectors in tissue exposed to microbes.
NOTE :- Breast milk contains both antimicrobial lipids and peptides.
Advantage Of Vernix
Vernix Caseosa is collected from the new born baby or neonatal skin and stored in a plastic container, and immediately frozen in 20 degree Celsius until analysis.
Vernix Caseosa serves from the moisturizing the infant’s skin and also facilitating from the birth canal. It serves the neonatal from the heat and environmental stress. It also have antibacterial effects and also there is the evidence of the chemical role to protecting from infection of physical barrier to the passage of bacteria.
Vernix begins to form on the unborn child at about 27 weeks gestation, in the 3rd trimester.
Vernix Caseosa protects the baby from harmful bacteria and acts as a moisturizer, shielding the baby’s skin from the drying effects of amniotic fluid.
It acts as a lubricant during birth, if it is a vaginal birth it acts as a natural lubricant and cases the birth process. It is antibacterial and antimicrobial in nature so it is also beneficial to mommy. It prevent infection of the vaginal can as the baby passes through.
“Baby’s are not born dirty”…Bathing a new born can certainly wait… A good towel rub is all that’s it needed to remove any amniotic fluid and blood.
Vernix seems to to perform various integral roles during transition of the fetus from intra-uterine to extra – uterine life. It has also found various interesting diagnostic and prognostic implications in this area. Thus, it continues to be an intriguing topic of interest among the medical fraternity to understand its detailed biology and function in the fetus and also to put its naturally endorsed characteristics to use in the adult population.
Vernix Caseosa consists of water – containing corneocytes embedded in a lipid matrix. The strategic location of the vernix on the fetal skin surface suggests participation in multiple overlapping functions required at birth, such as barrier to water, temperature regulation and innate immunity.
